The State of Cloud Native Development in China Report

China’s cloud native ecosystem is accelerating as AI moves to production

China is home to an estimated 1.75 million cloud native developers, including approximately 400,000 cloud native AI developers.

New research from CNCF and SlashData explores China’s growing cloud native ecosystem and how cloud native infrastructure supports AI teams as they move from experimentation and training to production inference.

Cloud native provides a path to production AI

As AI workloads mature, cloud native technologies play different roles—from Kubernetes, microservices, and observability for data pipelines to immutable infrastructure for reproducible training environments.

In production, service meshes, chaos engineering, and multicluster management help teams operate resilient, distributed inference at scale.

The next generation is building cloud native

Nearly half (48%) of Chinese backend developers are now cloud native, up from 30% two years ago. Among backend developers under 25, adoption reaches 58%.

The findings point to cloud native becoming an established part of how China’s next generation builds backend services—and a critical infrastructure layer as AI moves into production.
