Share your story with a short video
DISCLAIMER: Please be sure to first check with your marketing and/or PR team(s) to assure you are allowed to provide a public-facing story or quote.
What is my time commitment?
Total time for video: No more than 2 minutes
Your time commitment:
- Write a succinct story or short quote of your cloud-native use case
- Set aside some time to record yourself in the case of multiple takes
- Make sure your aspect ratio is set to 16:9 on your laptop. Mobile Devices should be turned sideways when filming.
Where will my video get published?
These videos can be used a number of ways:
- Video carousel hosted on cncf.io
- Promoted on social media (LinkedIn or X) as:
- a mini e-book
- an audiogram
- visual quotes
What am I going to say?
Some areas of interest that we suggest are in the AI and Observability spaces. Also, stories of platform engineering, Zero Trust philosophy and principles, or WASM (any performance, portability, security, and sandboxing needs that were met). But ultimately, the topic is up to you.
Quotes
Give us a 10-second quote about how cloud native technologies have positively impacted your company.
Stories
Aim to make your story of interest 30 seconds. Start with naming your company, and give us a specific instance like:
- What was the challenge your company was facing?
- What was the solution, and how CNCF helped get you there?
Case studies
Aim to make your video 1-2 minutes in length.
- Start with a salutation then give a one-sentence introduction of yourself
- Introduce your company or project
- What was the challenge your company was facing?
- What was the solution, and how CNCF helped get you there?
- The outcome is to convince more people to use cloud native technology in their tech stacks. Stats are great!
- MEMBERS: What about cloud-native technology has made your product strong?
- PROJECTS: Why your project is great and give a use case of an organization using it.
How should I record?
Use whichever local recording option you have on your machine. OBS Studio is great for a Linux-based OS (operating system), and Quicktime is awesome for a Mac OS. If you choose to use Zoom, please be sure your HD settings are enabled.
Your Microphone: Please use an external microphone, or one built into wired headphones. Wireless: are not the best for sound quality
What should my setup look like?
Your space/background
Here are some tips and tricks for your setup, ahead of recording. Remember – have fun!
- Eliminate Distractions: Turn off all notifications, and record when you know your space will be quiet from background noise.
- Confidence & Delivery: Remember, this will be post-produced, but here are some simple exercises anyone can do ahead of recording for a smooth delivery:
- Power poses in front of the mirror (silly but effective)
- Clear your mind by taking 10 deep belly breaths
- Background: Make sure it’s plain, or at least neat and clean with fun cloud-native merobelia behind you. Please no virtual backgrounds unless you are a pro and have a greenscreen and proper lighting.
- Attire: Avoid tight checks or patterns that create a shimmering effect that can be distracting. Play off your background by contrasting your attire.
- Enunciation tools
- “Sally sells seashells down by the seashore”
- “Red Leather, Yellow Leather”
- “Unique New York”
- Vocal variety: Include inflection in your voice so you don’t sound monotone and put your audience to sleep. We want to hear the excitement for your session in your voice.
- During: Have water nearby to avoid dry mouth in-between takes
- Look straight into your camera
- Desk doesn’t offer a lift? You can adjust the height of your machine by propping it on books or a crate. Ideally we capture from mid chest up, with a little space above your head
- Look straight into your camera
- Time to record! Set aside time for multiple takes, but if you feel like the first one was amazing, consider doing one more for good measure.
How do I send my recording?
Once you’re done, save a high-resolution version(s) of your video locally on your machine.
- Please note, there may be instances where we do not use your video in its entirety and use quotes or propose/draft a written case study from the transcript. Additionally, we are open to any ideas around different formats you would like to submit.
- Send us your favorite take by uploading them to this Google Drive.
- Our video editor will turn it into magic from here! Please note, we will be editing at our discretion. We will be in touch for your review ahead of publishing.
