Platform Engineering Day launched at KubeCon in Paris in spring 2024 to create space for deeper discussion on platform engineering principles, practices, and real-world experiences. Now in its fifth edition in Amsterdam, the event reflects growing community demand as internal platforms become critical for accelerating software delivery and establishing consistent guardrails for emerging technologies such as AI and autonomous agents.

Attendees will gain insight into how organisations are building and operating cloud native platforms in production today, along with perspectives on where the field is heading. Shared lessons from practitioners will help teams avoid common pitfalls and make more informed architectural and organisational decisions.

Who will get the most out of attending this event?

The program is designed to serve both newcomers to platform engineering and experienced practitioners operating platforms in production. Anyone exploring or actively working on internal platforms will find relevant technical and organisational insights.

What is new and different this year?

We have seen an increase in CFP submissions on the topics of Platform Engineering and AI, and we are starting to see more organisations able to speak about the practical application of AI and how it can deliver value. This year’s program includes more sessions focused on the real-world application of AI within platform engineering.

What will the day look like?

The day is heavily focused on platform engineering topics, but it also includes talks and panels focused on security—particularly how to build security and guardrails directly into platforms.

This year we will continue with the two-track format, allowing us to feature even more great content. We will start the day together with an update from the CNCF Platform Engineering Technical Community Group, followed by our keynote speakers.

After the morning break, we will split into two rooms featuring a range of sessions, including breakouts, panel discussions, and lightning talks. The program concludes with a joint closing session and an informal networking social.

Should I do any homework first?

Find your community!

The day begins by highlighting the work of the CNCF Platform Engineering Technical Community Group and inviting attendees to participate. This creates opportunities for contributors to share ideas, collaborate on initiatives, and help shape the direction of the platform engineering community.
