At KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe happening in Paris from 19-22 March, we will introduce our first ever hackathon event, in collaboration with the United Nations – Office of Information and Communications Technology (UN-OICT). This hackathon will focus exclusively on advancing the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs aim to transform our world. They are a call to action to end poverty and inequality, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice, and prosperity so that no one is left behind. The UN-OICT will provide real-world challenges from several entities of the United Nations for the #TeamCloudNative community. Participants will create AI or web applications to help support all 17 SDGs as these challenges can only be solved by a global partnership. The hackathon is an attempt to bring the developers together to solve some of the most pressing issues and contribute meaningfully to create a better, more sustainable world.

The in-person hackathon will run alongside KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe, kicking off on 19 March and running until 21 March. The winners will be announced and featured during the keynote on Friday, 22 March.

“We are looking forward to collaborating with the broader open source community at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon, leveraging transformative technologies and innovative projects. Our goal is to address some of the most pressing challenges and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable world,” said Omar Mohsine, Open Source Coordinator at the United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT).

“I’m excited for the innovative solutions the community will create on cloud native technologies to drive forward positive change on a global scale. There are great sustainable development initiatives happening within the CNCF with the sustainability working group. I’m looking forward to seeing how the cloud native community comes together to make the world more sustainable by solving tough problems,” said Arun Gupta, Vice President and General Manager for Open Ecosystem at Intel and CNCF Governing Board Chairperson.
