Another year, another Google Summer of Code (GSoC)! We are excited to announce that Cloud Native Computing Foundation is participating in GSoC 2021, one of the most popular programs for new contributors in the world of open source development.

For those who are not familiar, GSoC is a global program focused on introducing student developers to the world of open source software development. Through the program, students work with participating open source organizations like CNCF on a 10-week programming project during their break from school.

Since 2017, CNCF has been an enthusiastic GSoC participant with wonderful experiences with our many mentees. This year, we have 25 project ideas covered by 17 CNCF projects. Last year, 16 CNCF interns graduated from the program after working on projects including CoreDNS, Cortex, Envoy, in-toto, Kubernetes, OpenEBS, Prometheus, Rook, Service Mesh Interface, Thanos and TiKV.

If you are a student planning to participate in GSoC 2021 – we invite you to review the participating CNCF project ideas and start talking with mentors. Have a look at the full list of project ideas for 2021 on CNCF’s GitHub page.

Applications opened on March 29th and students can register with GSoC to submit their applications to CNCF and other participating organizations. All student applications are due by April 13, 2021 14:00.
